kenton-x-chanceKenton X. Chance is a sophomore Journalism and Mass Communication junior at Ming Chuan University International College in Taipei, Taiwan. His interest in journalism began in 2002. Then, as a student of Sociology, Literature in English, Spanish, and General Studies at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC), Chance enrolled for an introduction to basic journalism course sponsored by Interactive Media Limited, publishers of Searchlight newspaper in his native St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Chance’s childhood dream of becoming a teacher then faded into oblivion. On his graduation from the SVGCC in June 2003, Chance received awards for “Most Resourceful Student of the Year”, “Excellence in Public Discussion” and “Academic Excellence in Sociology”. That same month, he was offered a full-time position as a reporter with The Vincentian newspaper, also in SVG. He also served as Editor (Ag) and Assistant Editor during his three-year stint at the company. During that time, he was also a correspondent for Caribbean Net News and the Caribbean Media Corporation and has done special reports for media houses in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, Grenada, and Barbados. He was awarded a five-year scholarship to study Mandarin Chinese and an undergraduate degree in Taiwan, commencing in July 2006. Chance enjoys reading, writing, photography, blogging, travelling, basketball, and dragon-boat racing, and is especially interested in studying languages and interacting with people from different cultures. In addition to his native English, he is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, and also speaks basic French. He maintains a news and current affairs blog: I Witness-News.
